EcoAthletes becomes a 1% for the Planet Nonprofit Partner

EcoAthletes is now a nonprofit in the 1% For The Planet network.

It’s clear that combining the voices of its climate-minded Champions with the financial and social power of 1% for the Planet’s member companies will make a positive difference on the #ClimateComeback. This is an opportunity for like-minded companies, whether they are a part of the sports industry or not, to support athletes that seek opportunities to use their voice to lead climate action. Through the support of 1% For The Planet organizations, EcoAthletes can enhance the Resource Hub and ultimately provide more robust support to the passionate roster of athletes.

“We are excited to be a 1% for the Planet approved nonprofit,” said EcoAthletes founder and CEO Lew Blaustein. “Athletes, thanks to their massive platforms, have made a difference on a myriad of social issues over many decades but on climate, not so much – yet.  EcoAthletes and our Champions look forward to working with member companies who understand the power of athletes to accelerate the #ClimateComeback.”

About 1% For the Planet:

Launched twenty years ago by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, the organization connects environmentally-minded companies that commit to donate 1% of their sales to approved environmental nonprofits.

The idea is as simple as it is powerful: because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth, they should protect those resources. Realizing their responsibility, brands such as Brushfire Records, Klean Kanteen, New Belgium Brewing, Honest Tea, Caudalie and many more have donated over $250 million since 2002.
